Shanghai

Straddling the Huangpu River in the Tangtse delta, Shanghai is China's busiest port and most important industrial and commercial center. With a population of 12 million, Shanghai is China's second largest city with a population density of around 50,000 per square km. A vibrant modern cosmopolitan, Shanghai is best known for shopping and night life and is considered China's most liveable city by foreigners.

The Bund (riverside embankment) is an elevated walkway of 400 meters wide along the Huangpu River. The European architecture reflects its triumphant history as the power center of old Shanghai when hundreds of foreign banks, grand offices and private clubs flourished in this area between the mid-19th and mid-20th century. Today many of these buildings have changed owners and tenants. The Shanghai government continues to lease more office space on the Bund to financial institutions all over the world. Visit the Bank of China, Shanghai Customs House and Pudong Development Bank for a spectacular architecture tour
