7 Days Ecology tour of  Chengdu and Wolong Nature Reserve

 

The Wolong Giant Panda Reserve Centre was one of the earliest research bases established in the early 1980s by the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Until 1989, the Ministry of Forestry of PRC and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) formulated the long-term Giant Panda Management Plan. Today, the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve Centre has been turned into the Giant Panda Breeding Centre focusing on research works on breeding and bamboo ecology. Much other research works are being carried out at other Reserves such as the one in Qinling Mountains of  Shaanxi Province.

 

Day 1: Arrive Chengdu

Arrive at Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.  Meet and transfer to hotel.

 

Day 2:    Chengdu          B,L,SD (special dinner)

The first stop of today is Panda Research Center. You’ll learn about China’s panda conservation efforts and get an up-close view of these magnificent animals. We also visit Sanxingdui Museum, which is Sichuan's most important archaeological finds linked to the ancient Shu culture. Relax in a famous teahouse with the locals, who are full of character and life. Dinner will be served at a local popular Sichuan Food restaurant. And then enjoy Changing Faces, a performance featuring the unique, magical skills of the Sichuan Opera.

 

Day 3:   Chengdu/Wolong         B,L,D

Drive from Chengdu to the Wolong Nature Reserve, on the way, sightseeing in the Dujiangyan, which is a 2200 year old irrigation system and has been listed into the World Culture Heritage. Overnight at Nature Reserve.           

 

Day 4:  Wolong          B,L,D

This morning we have opportunity to photograph pandas as they eat their breakfast. We take a close-up look at baby pandas in their nursery, and watch adult pandas frolic, slumber and forage, listen the introduction given by the grand panda expert, and see the grand pandas. Our next stop is the fascinating panda museum at the Reserve, where the educational exhibits tell us everything we ever wanted to know about pandas.

 

Day 5:   Wolong      B,L,D

Today we will trek into the forest, visit the grand panda viewing station in the mountain, follow the panda track in the dense bamboo forest.  Return hotel after tour. 

 

Day 6:    Wolong/Chengdu   B,L,SD (special dinner)

Drive back to Chengdu.  Visit Marquis Wu Shrine and Thatched Cottage of Dufu.  Enjoy Chengdu hot pot dinner. 

 

Day 7:   Leave Chengdu      B

Departure transfer to airport.  Fly to next destination.

Other famous Nature Reserves in China:

Southeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and east of the Hengduan Mountain lies a hideaway where visitors can escape the hot summer. Now known worldwide, Daocheng is considered another Shangri-la hidden within the mountains in southwest China. Daocheng, subordinate to the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, is special with its geographical features and natural scenery. The area is enveloped by waterfalls, thick forests, snow-capped mountains, made further unique by the Tibetan culture of the people.

 

The Qinghai Lake Nature Reserve is located in the bound of 3 counties, Gangcha , Haiyan, Gonghe, covering an area of 4,500 square kilometers. Established in 1975 by Qinghai Provincial People's Government,it was promoted to a national nature reserve in 1997.  It fundamentally protects the ecological system of highland swamp and rare avifauna. This nature reserve dots in the northeastern part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

 

 

 

Hidden in dense forest , Bitahai is a well known freshwater lake in western Yunnan . In Tibetan , Bita means a blanket of oak trees . With an elevation of 3540 meters , the lake is 40 meters at the deepest and remains emerald all year round . Huge trees that cast shadows upon the lake and the bat-shaped islet in the middle of the lake form a charming landscape , which varies in four seasons . The most wondrous scene of the area is in spring when intoxicated fish floating in the lake after they eat azalea petals.

 

 

Located in northwestern Hunan, Wulingyuan is known as the Wulingyuan scenic area, including three parts: Zhangjiajie National Park, Suoxiyu Nature Reserve and Tianzi Mountain Natural Reserve. The scenery of Wulingyuan is truly spectacular.  Zhangjiajie lies at the center of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area and is 13.34 square kilometers in area. Zhangjiajie, in particular, is rich in forest resources, featuring both virgin and artificial secondary forests. It is home to some 3,000 species of high-grade plants of which 35 are rare species under state protection. There are also 116 types of animals living in Zhangjiajie, the first national park in China.

 

 

Ke'erqin Nature Reserve with an area of 126,987 hectares lies in the boundaries of Ke'erqin, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The main protection targets are rare birds, wetland and typical natural landscape. Forest, shrub and grassland as well as river, lake and marshland form a complex environment. There are 452 species of higher plants and 167 species of birds in the Reserve, among which 34 are protected animals. The Reserve is also an important reproduction spot for red-crown cranes, white stocks, great bustards and other rare birds.

 

 

Establishment: 1985. Location: Motuo County, Tibet. Altitude: 700--7756 meters. Agency in Charge: Forestry Department. Other: an area of 62000 hectare, protecting the mountane mixed forest ecosystem, the resreve is in the plateau tropical fringe humid area.View and Species: (1)plant: spindle tree firn, Nanmu, gastrodia tuber, goldthread . (2)animal: leoard, clouded leopard,boa,macaque,lynx,musk deer,zibet, blue sheep. (3)the vertical natural landscape and rich species of tropical to temperated zone Motuo Nature Reserve is called "natural wildlife museum" in Tibet, it is an important base to develop research on different climate ecological system, it should become a place to make long-term research and monitor on ecological system.

 

 

The Kanas Nature Reserve is located in the heart of Xinjiang's Altai Region that borders Russia, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia. Its name, Kanas, is a Mongolian word that means "a beautiful and mysterious place." It is estimated that the Kanas Lake, as the core of the Kanas Natural Reserve, formed some 200,000 years ago, due to glacier development during the last Ice Age. The nature reserve is best known for the picturesque Kanas Lake, which was formed through strong plowing by glaciers. About 1,375 meters above sea level, the crescent-shaped alpine lake covers an area of 44.78 square kilometers -- ten times the size of the Heavenly Lake in the Tianshan Mountains. It reaches about 180 meters at the deepest point, making it the deepest alpine freshwater lake in China.
